DIVERSIFIED MANIPULATION
Diversified manipulation is a hands-on only technique. It is a high-velocity low-amplitude thrust that is meant to restore the proper mobility of spinal articulations. These thrusts are precise in order to restore motion but not cause injury. When used by a skilled practitioner, adjustments by the use of this method are not painful. This is one of the most widely used techniques in our office due to the fact that most conditions of the spine are simply caused by loss of normal joint function.
In most cases patient's will hear a popping sound when they receive treatment. The sound is caused by a stretching of the tissues of the synovium which encapsulate the articulations of the spine. The sound is heard when gaps are large enough for carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases to escape. These gases build up in the capsule because they are by-products of cellular metabolism. The gas will rebuild in as little as 15 minutes post treatment.
The relief obtained from this technique is commonly thought to come from the popping noise. This is not true. Relief comes from the restoration proper joint movement
